Different Options for Cystic Acne Treatment

Although there is not a cure for cystic acne , there are treatments for it that can greatly help individuals who suffer from this particularly painful and ugly form of acne. The biggest help for cystic acne treatment is to keep the skin clean at all times.

Those who are more prone to cystic acne should be on a solid skin cleansing regimen that includes a thorough cleaning morning and evening. This cleaning should be with a cleanser designed for skin that is prone to cystic acne, and then an exfoliating agent should be used to get rid of any other excess oil or dirt on the skin.

Once this is done, a light moisturizer should be used to help replenish the skin from the cleansing without adding more oil or dirt to the skin which could clog the pores.

Other Treatments

Besides keeping the skin clean, another cystic acne treatment is to take antibiotics or other drugs to help get rid of the bacteria that cause the infection that leads to the cysts under the skin.

These cysts are full of bacteria so that scratching them or squeezing them helps to spread the bacteria that lead to other pustules in the skin. It is difficult for individuals to not be tempted to squeeze or scratch the pustules because they can become itchy from the infection. In addition, the individual wants to get rid of the puss inside of the pustules so that the skin looks better. However, this only serves to leave a permanent scar and, at times, a deep pock mark in the skin which is there for life if not treated.

For women, it is tempting to use more make-up to cover the embarrassing pustules, but this also serves to further aggravate the problem since it adds to clogging the pores and the possibility of bacteria.

In addition to the cleansing cystic acne treatments and the antibiotics, there are also some laser treatments that help to kill infected skin cells and also close up some of the larger pores in the skin so that they do not get clogged and form the pustules.

Also, there are some medications that are designed to help slow the production of oil in the sebaceous oil glands so that it works in conjunction with the cleansing and drying agents that are applied externally to the skin to dry the excess oil so that it does not clog the pores.

Only doctors and dermatologists can effectively prescribe what cystic acne treatments are appropriate for different individuals since different skin types, stages in life and hormonal changes all call for varying treatments of cystic acne.
